The company have been selling their albums online for some time now from a clumsy template-driven e-commerce site that did little to inspire confidence in the buyer and quickly taught them that the key to any successful e-commerce website is thoughtful, high quality design.
I was commissioned to design and develop a smooth, professional e-commerce website that would provide easy access to their current library of titles for as wide a range of customers as possible, whilst reinforcing the image of professionalism and high quality music the company has become renowned for.
The front-end of the website was designed and developed wherever possible using standards-compliant xhtml in order to make the site as accessible as it could be. Flash elements were integrated seemlessly in order to provide interactivity such as rollover animations and streaming mp3 music previews, each element providing a non-flash alternative for those without the flash-player installed.
Pages and products can be easily added and modified using a bespoke content management system which not only allows The Recording Company to edit the site content without any website design training, but also keeps track of the most popular products and search phrases.
It's the small features like this that really make the website tick, providing valuable insight into which Premiership teams have the largest potential market, taking all the guess-work out of deciding which team album to produce next.
In addition to global content editing, the website's administration tools also allow access to elements pivotal to the website's search engine performance, such as title, description and keywords. This allows The Recording Company to continually tweak and optimise every page on their site to achieve higher ranking in the most popular search engines as both their website and music business flourish in the future.
