Dunwoodie Architecture & DesignDunwoodie Architecture & Design were looking to be reborn as an exciting, progressive north east design studio, with a spanking new logo, flash website and video showreel.
Frustrated with their out-dated and entirely inaccurate public image as a cottage-industry design firm, they were anxious to show potential clients and strategic partners just how far the practice has come over the years.
“After visiting other websites created by Aelius, Alex was our first choice for our site, and the final product was beyond what we were expecting.”
Derek Shepherd
I was commissioned to design and develop an entertaining and dynamic database driven flash website that would not only reinforce the practice's brand new identity, but also added that all-important oooh factor that would get them noticed amongst their competitors.
Dunwoodie were keen to communicate with the future of an industry steeped in method and tradition without alienating a firmly established audience of busy developers concerned with reliability and track record above all else. They were, in essence, looking for a website that addressed both the young and the old with equal certainty.
“Without over-complicating the site and allowing us to modify aspects ourselves, the final product is a visual spectacular which keeps the user entertained.”
Derek Shepherd
Since the website was to be database-driven for easy content management and scalability, the design and layout of the site were kept very simple indeed. I designed the website to be both classical in its restraint and yet amusing at the same time, creating a harmony between simple navigation and addictive interactivity.
“Our clients have commented on the cleverness and fun-ness of the website, promoting people to visit the site and see it for themselves.”
Derek Shepherd
To cater for disabled and dial-up users, the website features a standards-compliant text-only alternative site, which runs off the same MySQL database as the flash website. Not only does this mean that website content need only be updated once to affect both sites, but it also provides a valuable boost to the website's search engine performance.
