The most challenging aspect of rebranding a French Polishing business is dealing with customer expectations and preconceptions of who and what a french polisher should be. Most people picture an elderly man with an oily rag; an out of date stereotype that makes it difficult for a fresh young outfit of talented craftsmen to make their mark on the world.
I was commissioned by managing director David Wilson to design and develop a clean, professional website that would appeal to two completely disparate audiences with entirely different assumptions of what French Polishing was.
In order to convince potential private sector customers that a young, progressive French Polishing specialist is every bit as capable as the stereotypical old master, I designed them a warm, intimate flash website that captured the elegance and tradition of this distinguished artform within a modern and stylish context.
The web site is completely dynamic, built in Flash MX and running off a MySQL database with PHP middleware. Elite French Polishing can update the entire web site themselves via simple forms without any experience or training in website design or flash.
The web site has been extremely well received, having won six website design awards, scoring a massive number of hits in the first two weeks after launch and recently winning the Bronze at the 2005 North East Fresh Awards for website design.
