International House CDrom & DVDNorth East media and video production company Superkrush commissioned me to design and develop this cross-platform interactive CD-rom and accompanying DVD for leading language school International House Newcastle; essentially an interactive menu system for a series of videos highlighting the benefits of the school and of Newcastle as a place to live.
The project presented a number of challenges; First and foremost was the fact that the CD-rom and DVD were to be presented only in English, promoting the school to potential students wishing to study English as a second language - an audience who did not speak English!! So it was incredibly important that the CD-rom could be navigated without relying on text hints or labels.
Secondly, with a very small amount of development time it was vital that the CD-rom interface design could be quickly re-used for the interactive DVD interface.
In answer to these key challenges, I designed an incredibly simple user interface which could be read intuitively both horizontally (for western audiences) and vertically (for some eastern audiences), making good use of photography to illustrate universal themes, such as Teaching, Travel, Social Life etc.
As content was limited, and typography couldn't be relied upon to help create balance on the page, animated rollovers and icons were created to bring the interface to life.
